A gully is a low level drainage catchpit designed to channel water. They provide a stormwater drainage system and prevent surface water from accumulating on the street.
They consist of concrete pots placed under the road surface, with visible iron grid.
Gullies are designed for the drainage of water however debris such as dirt, leaves, and trash can also get caught in them. This creates a blockage that prevents the free flow of water to the main drainage system.
It is important to clean and empty storm drains regularly to prevent such debris from accumulating in drains, limiting their water capacity leading to flooded areas.
